Another perspective from an unforgettable week in Lakeland — a place where aviation becomes more than just a passion. From sunrise arrivals to the final moments of the night airshow, every day at SUN ‘n FUN delivered something spectacular both in the sky and on the ground.
This year’s lineup was absolutely incredible. Watching the USAF Thunderbirds carve through the Florida sky in their F-16 Fighting Falcons was pure adrenaline, while the F-22 Raptor Demo Team once again proved why it remains one of the most impressive solo jet demonstrations in the world. The power, the sound, and the precision of every maneuver made it impossible to look away.
Beyond the modern military jets, the airfield was filled with aviation history. The legendary B-25 Mitchell “Panchito,” the iconic P-51 Mustangs flown by the Jack Aces, and the Trojan Thunder formation brought the spirit of classic aviation back to life. Add in the incredible aerobatic routines from Michael Goulian, Kyle Fowler, and the TITAN Aerobatic Team, and there was never a quiet moment in the sky.
One of the most memorable parts of the event was the atmosphere after sunset. The night airshow transformed the entire airfield into a completely different world — glowing smoke trails, synchronized lights, explosions, fire effects, and aircraft disappearing into the darkness before roaring back into view. Capturing those moments through a camera feels almost surreal.
For an aviation photographer, events like SUN ‘n FUN are about much more than airplanes. It’s about the emotion, the people, the light, the sound, and those split-second moments that exist for only an instant before disappearing into the sky again.
